Last year, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Japan for a semester. It was an incredible experience that I will never forget. I lived with a host family in Tokyo and attended a local university. I was nervous at first because I didn’t know anyone and didn’t speak much Japanese, but my host family was very welcoming and helped me adjust to my new surroundings.

During my time in Japan, I learned so much about the culture and language. I took classes in Japanese language and culture, and also had the chance to explore different parts of the country. I visited Kyoto and saw the beautiful temples and gardens, and also went to Hiroshima to learn about the history of the atomic bomb.

One of my favorite experiences was trying different foods in Japan. I had sushi, ramen, and okonomiyaki, which is a savory pancake with different toppings. I also tried matcha, which is a type of green tea that is very popular in Japan.

Living in Japan was not always easy, though. I had to adjust to a different way of life and sometimes felt homesick. However, I learned a lot about myself and gained a new perspective on the world. I made friends with other international students and also met Japanese students who were interested in learning about my culture.

Overall, studying abroad in Japan was an unforgettable experience that taught me so much about myself and the world. I hope to travel more in the future and continue to learn about different cultures and languages.
